Brand History
IPD Group Limited traces its beginnings to the General Electric Company Ltd of England, founded in 1889. Over the years, the company merged and integrated the major electrical businesses of GEC, English Electric and A.E.I to comprise one of the most extensive and diverse electrical engineering and manufacturing organisation in the world.
In 1956, English Electric opened its operation at Regents Park in Sydney, and has provided employment and training to thousands of people in the Australian electrical industry. In 1989 an equal investment by GEC and Compagnie General D'Electricitie (CGE) formed the power generation and transport business, GEC ALSTHOM. This developed into the French owned business ALSTOM which became a very successful Australian business in power generation, network services, transport, IT, HV distribution and Industrial Products.
Today it remains as a much changed and diverse organisation - IPD Group Limited, a 100% Australian owned and operated company, acquired from ALSTOM in 2005 by the management team who continue to build on the original business platform.

In 2008 IPD acquired the Adelaide based lamp business of P.J. White & Co and in harmony brought the GE lamp and fittings business into our portfolio. Lighting is a legacy business for which GEC was a world leader and renowned developer.
IPD Group Limited designs and manufactures a large range of products specifically suited to the local environment, maintaining an in-house engineering team to develop and test new ranges of equipment to ensure conformity to Australian Standards, legislative requirements and associated international standards.
Today IPD is an industry leader in electrical equipment for energy protection and distribution, switchgear, industrial controls, industrial automation, lighting and cable accessories. Our clients are based on long term partnership in electrical wholesale, switchboard builders, OEM, electrical contractors, power utilities and system integrators.
